Aestivum Job

Inspired by a drink Wade ordered for someone who didn’t want it and a drink given to Wade that he didn’t want. Laced with character-driven nods, the “Aestivum Job” blends wheatgrass, citrusy Aviation Gin, spicy liqueurs, and a whipped cream garnish into a bold, green cocktail that’s equal parts chaos, charm, and Colossus-cool.  (Recipe Below)

Wade Wilson, Ex-Canadian Mercenary (Ryan Reynolds) sends a Blow Job shot to a muscle-for-hire in effort to fuel a fight to break out.  The only bit we took from the Blow Job shot is the whipped cream garnish top ~ delicious.  The name, Aestivum Job gives away the main inspiration for this cocktail, that is if you know the Latin for Wheatgrass. Explained to Wade by Weasel (T.J. Miller) the bartender, who likely under direction of Wade’s girlfriend Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), tries to offer Wade a green shot rather than tequila.  There is wheatgrass in this cocktail, but we would argue that this is the best green shot you will ever have. We had to use Aviation Gin as a nod to Ryan Reynolds and his pursuits outside of acting.  The citrus notes of this clean tasting gin come through in this cocktail as well as the spice brought out by the Ginger Liqueur and Cinnamon Schnapps.  Instead of a shot, we put the cocktail in a Collins glass and we used the chilling flavor of Rumple Minze to really make for a delicious cocktail and to represent Deadpool's  X-Men "suitor" Colossus (Stefan Kapicic) a man made entirely of steel, trying to convince Deadpool to come to the "good side".  Wheatgrass, Lemon, and Ginger.. It's practically a health drink, but with alcohol, just like Deadpool would order it.

  • Goldschlager

    Country: Italy

    ABV:  87 proof/43.5%

    Brand: Sazerac Company

    Spirits Type: Liqueurs/Cordials/Schnapps

    Taste: Herbal spice and cinnamon

    Price Category: $

A Swiss-style Cinnamon Schnapps with small 24-karat gold flakes in the bottle.  This higher proof alcohol is traditionally stored in the freezer and served neat, chilled.  Smooth and sweet, the cinnamon flavor meets the middle of the palate and is absent of the earthy flavors generally associated with cinnamon spice.

  • Half and Half

    10.5% - 18% fat

Half and half is an equal parts mixture of cream and milk.  Now, there are great non-dairy options in the market.

  • Wheatgrass Powder

A superfood in your cocktail makes it almost justifiable.  Wheatgrass advocates boast health benefits such as it may boost your immune system, aid in digestion, and support your energy needs.  Wheatgrass Powder has a vegetal freshness that will enhance herbal flavors and balance bitterness.

  • Lemon Juice

    5-6% acidity

Less acidic than lime juice, lemon juice will add enough acidity to brighten flavors without overpowering when balanced with sweetness.  Usually our preference when needing acidity to emulsify with egg white, aquafaba or cream.

  • Agave

A neutrally flavored and easy to grab sweetener.  Golden, Amber and Dark Agave Nectars are available in the supermarket with darker versions being predictably more toasty or caramel in flavor.

  • Whip-In-A-Can

A fun way to top cocktails to add creaminess. It can easily be substituted with freshly made whip cream with your choice of flavoring. The fluffy whip is not only fun, it will coat the tongue with sweetness and enough fat content to help carry flavor though the back of the palate while smoothing out astringency of alcohol.

Maximum Effort: Deadpool, Cocktails, and the Beautiful Art of Controlled Chaos

Deadpool crashes onto the screen like a Molotov cocktail lobbed through the stained-glass window of the superhero genre, with Ryan Reynolds weaponizing sarcasm, ultraviolence, and fourth-wall-breaking charm before the opening credits even catch their breath. Beneath the shredded bodies, profanity, and candy-colored chaos is a surprisingly twisted love story, as Wade Wilson transforms from wisecracking mercenary to scarred antihero after falling hard for Vanessa, the kind of romance that somehow survives terminal illness, underground experiments, and enough emotional damage to fill an entire Marvel phase. The film’s reckless energy spills straight into its cocktails, from the wheatgrass-fueled “Aestivum Job” — a gin-spiked green machine loaded with ginger heat, citrus bite, and a frosty Rumple Minze finish worthy of Colossus himself — to the flaming “Maximum Effort,” a tropical inferno of brandy, passion fruit, hot honey, and overproof rum that tastes like bad decisions made beautifully. Much like the movie, the drinks flirt shamelessly with excess, balancing sweetness, fire, and just enough danger to make you wonder whether this is a cocktail menu or a cry for help scribbled on the back of a comic book. Deadpool works because it never asks permission to be vulgar, weird, heartfelt, or completely unhinged, and somewhere between the exploding SUVs and whiskey-soaked punchlines, it accidentally became the most punk-rock superhero movie of its generation.
